Welcome to Gweta Lodge
Gweta Lodge is an Oasis set in the middle of a village on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans. The Lodge is ideally situated to take advantage of the gateway to the Makgadikgadi and a vast range of activities, excursions and game drives. Be sure to spend a night on the pans fully catered for under the stars, for a "Not To Be Missed" experience.
Features of Gweta Lodge: The Lodge has a range of accommodation types as well as a number of different areas for our guests to relax, eat and drink in a comfortable environment, ranging from luxury rooms, family rooms, single / double room, rondavels and camping. The public areas include a bar, lounge, pool, open rondavels, a restaurant and a boma firepit.
Our family rooms sleep four (one double bed and two twin beds) and are equipped
with ceiling fans, coffee and tea service, mosquito nets and en-suite showers.
Our single and double rooms (twin beds) are equipped with ceiling fans, coffee
and tea service, mosquito nets and en-suite Showers.
Our rondavels (twin beds) are equipped with ceiling fans, coffee and tea service,
mosquito nets and en-suite showers.
Our Safari tents sleep two and are equipped with a night stand, wash basin
and storage shelves. Shared bathrooms with toilets and hot showers are available
nearby.
Guests are welcome to bring their own vehicles and tents for camping. There
is a fire pit for cooking and warming up on cold nights. An ablutions block
with toilets and hot showers is available nearby.
Activities that can be arranged through Gweta Lodge:
VILLAGE TOUR:
Guests will be taken on a one and a half hour guided tour of Gweta Village
by one of the local residents. On the tour they will experience how the local
African people live. They will travel to the “Kgotla” where the
Chief will explain about the village life and its residents. They will visit
the primary school, hospital, local shops as well as the local witch doctor,
who will “throw the bones” and predict their future…

NXAISINI PAN SUNDOWNERS TRIP:
Nxaisini Pan is a small pan about 15km away with a natural spring that supplies
the resident animals such as elephant. Guests depart Gweta lodge at 16h30
and travel in an open game vehicle to Nxaisini pan where they will sit amidst
the wild and enjoy sundowner snacks while observing the amazing scenery. Usually
elephants are seen meandering their way down to the watering hole to quench
their thirst, while the sunsets behind the old beautiful baobab. Guests return
to Gweta Lodge a about 19h00 so they may shower and freshen up before dinner
is served.

CULTURAL BAOBAB EXCURSION:
Guests depart Gweta Lodge mid morning with a full cooler box and light lunch
in tow. The first stop is Bailey’s Cattle Post and Pan before heading
on to ‘Greens Baobab’ which is situated about 20km away. The third
stop is ‘Chapman’s Baobab’ where light snacks will be served.
Both of these baobab’s are very popular among tourists as they have
so much heritage and background. Once everyone has finished taking in their
surroundings, the guide will return them to Gweta Lodge
Time 4 – 5 hours Excludes Refreshments
NTWETWE PAN DAY TRIP WITH LUNCH:
Ntwetwe pan is situated 36km in a SE direction. Guests depart Gweta Lodge
on an open game drive vehicle with a packed lunch in tow. On the way the guide
will stop at Hugo’s baobab and other cultural hot spots so guests can
gain the full experience of the day. On arrival at the edge of the pans guests
will either stay in the vehicle and be driven onto the vast expanse of salt
pan to the lunch spot or they will hop onto quad bikes (extra cost) and experience
a once in a life time ride of fun! Lunch is situated in the middle of the
Ntwetwe Pan Once lunch is finished guests will return to Gweta Lodge. The
whole trip runs from 10h00 until 15h00/16h00 depending on the weather. Drinks
are excluded. Quad biking can be arranged at an additional cost
Time 5 – 6 hours Excludes: Refreshments; quad biking
NTWETWE PAN HALF DAY TRIP:
This pan trip is very similar to the above day trip however the vehicle leaves
at 13h00 and returns at 16h00 and lunch is not included. Lunch and beverages
are excluded, however quad biking can be arranged at an additional cost.
Time 3 hours Excludes Refreshments; Lunch; quad biking
NTWETWE PAN BUDGET OVERNIGHT:
Guests depart Gweta Lodge at 14h00 and travel to Ntwetwe pan while stopping of at Hugo’s baobab and cultural hot spots. Once they have reached the edge of the pans they can choose the quad biking option at an additional cost or just carry on with the vehicle into the pans until they reach the overnight budget camp where the staff will offload all the bed rolls, tables etc. Potjie for dinner and then a night sleeping under the stars. What more can you ask for? Please note drinks are excluded but basic toilet facilities will be provided. Some ideas of what to do at Gweta Lodge:
Quad biking:
A Quad biking safari is available for single people or larger groups of up to twenty. You will be transported to pick up the bikes and taken on a wildlife and local tour of the bush and pans, lasting most of the day, lunch is provided with this true exploring adventure.
Power Kiting:
One of the latest additions to the extreme sport culture and only done at Gweta Lodge. Experience speed of 60Kph whilst only a few inches off the ground in our buggies or just have a blast with some of our sport and stunt kites. All training and equipment is provided on this day long activity trip into the heart of the Botswana environment.
Land Yacht:
Similar to Power Kiting with a permanent sail attached to your buggy, experience the pleasure of this water born sport on the dry sand flats of the Makgadikgadi pans all training and equipment is provided with the option of more than one day tours on this activity.

Where is Gweta Lodge?
Gweta Lodge is located 200km from Maun and 100km from Nata. The Makgadikgadi
Pans (Nxai pan, Sowo pan, and Ntwetwe pan) are just south of the village.
Entrances to both pans are found a few kilometers from Gweta. Fuel and supplies
can be found at Gweta village, 45 km west of Makgadikgadi gate.
