Welcome to Thebe River Lodge
Botswana's Chobe National Park and Chobe River - one of the finest African safari big five holiday destinations. Thebe River Safaris is based in Kasane, Chobe, Botswana, 70km from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and Livingstone, Zambia and 250km from the Okavango and Moremi.
Thebe lodge offers accommodation suitable for family, self drive, independant travellers or overlanders. Our camp offers spacious facilities, ablutions and power points. We operate game drives into the Chobe Park and Cruises on the Chobe River as well as Chobe Day Trips and Overnight Safaris into the Chobe Park.
We specialise in budget, luxury and tailor-made Mobile Safaris into the Chobe, Savuti, Moremi, Nxai Pan and Deception Valley areas of Botswana for those who wish to experience a true Botswana wilderness safari.
Thebe River Safaris is ideally situated for visitors to the Chobe Park and Chobe River area in Northern Botswana. Our lodge and camp overlook the placid Chobe River and echo the surrounding bush with a rustic design.
We are 12km from the Kazungula border and 5km from the Chobe Park entrance. Our restaurant and bar provide welcome food and drinks and visitors can enjoy the sparkling swimming pool.
Thebe River Safaris was started in 1981 by Jan van Wyk with a single
land cruiser. The business has expanded over the intervening years into a
bustling lodge and camp in Kasane, Chobe. Jan's original idea of sharing the
wonders of the Chobe Park with visitors has continued with Game Drives, Cruises
and Mobile Safaris taking guests into the African wilderness. The operation
now includes Jan's sons Jannie and Louie and daughter Francie.
Accommodation:
Thebe River Safaris offers accommodation in Kasane, Chobe, Botswana.
Our lodge is comfortable and has family rooms, twin rooms. All rooms
are en-suite, mosquito netted and the water system is a hot water on demand
reticulation system which ensures a fast delivery of plenty of hot water -
perfect after a hard day game viewing in Chobe Park or enjoying the wildlife
on the Chobe River.
The camp has large, shaded areas for camping, covered cooking areas
and communal ablutions, again with planty of hot water for all.
Thebe River Safaris lodge offers a family room and twin rooms. All rooms are
en-suite and have a shower with loads of piping hot water. All beds are mosquito
netted ensuring a peaceful nights sleep.
Camp Accommodation
Thebe River Safaris camp offers spacious camping areas with covered
cooking areas or tented accommodation. Ablutions are all shared and have a
large communal ablution block with showers with loads of piping hot water,
basins and mirrors and toilets. We have a small number of made-up tents erected
in the camp with twin beds. All beds in the tents are mosquito netted ensuring
a peaceful nights sleep.
Thebe River Safaris has a rustic restaurant and bar area
overlooking the placid Chobe River. Guests can enjoy a fine meal or drinks
from the bar and take a swim in the inviting pool if the weather gets hot
which it does often in Kasane. There is satellite television in the bar to
catch up on the latest international news or sports and on weekends the Thebe
Bar can be a popular locals venue. Thebe can cater to large groups if required
and the continental style breakfast is served in the dining area each morning.
Thebe River Activities:
Thebe River Safaris operates Game Drives into the Chobe National Park on open
Safari vehicles which afford clients the best views of game around them. We
operate Cruises on the beautiful Chobe River on either our large pontoon boat
or a variety of smaller speed boats dependng on the number of guests. Our
Chobe Day Trips from Victoria Falls or Kazungula border give
guests with limited time the chance to see big game and experience the Chobe
Park and river.
Chobe Park Game Drives
Thebe River Safaris offers daily morning or afternoon game drives into the
Chobe National Park. All drives are in open backed safari vehicles with open
seats. What better way to experience the stunning wilderness of the game rich
Chobe Park. Game drives are usually about 4 hours in duration in which time
it is not uncommon to spot several of Africa's "Big-five" species.
Elephant are very common as are lion and leopard sightings. The birdlife is
excellent at the right time of year (summer - August to April) with many "specials"
in the greater Chobe area.
Chobe River Cruises
Take to the waters of the Chobe River on a Thebe River Safaris cruise. Depending
on the number of guests cruises are either on our large pontoon boats which
seats 40 pax or on one of our smaller aluminium speed boats which can seat
a maximum of 12 pax. Guests are welcome to take their own drinks on the cruise
and see in the sunset from the water. Game is common along the rivers edge
and the birding can be incredible during the summer months (approx. August
- April). Elephant are commonly seen as are buffalo, kudu, bushbuck, hippo,
giraffe and sable.
Chobe Day Trip
For those who wish to experience the Chobe National Park but are
short of time, Thebe River Safaris offers Chobe Day Trips with pick-ups from
either Victoria Falls or Kazungula / Zimbabwe Border. We also offer one, two
and three night Chobe Safaris Trips in our Safaris options for those who want
a longer Chobe safari.
Pick up time is approximately 07:15-07:30 hrs. Tea/coffee is served on arrival in Kasane. We depart on a game drive (approx 3 hrs) in the Chobe National Park, where you will have the chance of encountering big game such as elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe, a variety of antelope, as well as Botswana’s many species of land and water bird life.
Guests stop en route for a picnic breakfast. After the game drive, guests are taken to our jetty and embark on a lunch cruise (approx 3 hrs) on the Chobe River where they cruise up river into the Chobe National Park. Guests depart on their return transfer to Victoria Falls at approx 15:30 hrs.
